Gaor Bheinn from Gleann Suileag
Munros: Gulvain
Date walked: 21/03/2022
Time taken: 4 hours
Distance: 12km
Ascent: 930m
This report is short as there are many other - and better - reports on climbing Gaor Bheinn.
I'm always interested in loop walks where possible rather than an 'out and back' walks and this, combined with me buying an eMTB from my retirement lump sum 2 years ago, helps me to consider alternative routes in accessing the mountains.
So, looking at the map, there is a very good land rover track from Fassfern on the A830 into Glensulaig cottage. The track also climbs quite steeply up to a col at around 300m and this was my goal for the first part. However, this track is very steep in parts and, worse, very rough. I walked and pushed the bike up most of this as I was anticipating a lovely free wheel descent later in the day! I left the bike at grid ref 024 845, approx as the track was very poor by now.
Gaor Bheinn from this direction is quite a handy climb and this route makes for a nice, relatively easy circuit.
