Over Loch Quoich
Munros: Gairich
Date walked: 03/07/2011
Drove over from Arbroath and made camp on a great little ledge on the north shore of the loch, pretty much opposite Gairich. A beautiful evening with the sun going down over Knoydart and just enough wind to negate the midge problem!
Next morning, me and my 10 year-old son, canoed across the loch in our inflateable - less than 15 minutes - and from the south shore climbed Gairich by the north ridge. Reckoning that most people climb the hill from the dam we felt like intrepid explorers right off the beaten track! And, of course, there was no track but the going was easy and we were at the summit within 90 minutes. Great views to Lochaber and to the west and north. The view to the east marred by a wind farm on a distant hill.
Back down to the loch, paddled over, struck camp and home for tea. Now isn't that what 10 year-olds should be doing rather than PlayStation?
