We set off for a walk in the Lomond Hills but due to road closures we abondoned this in favour of the Loch Leven Heritage Trail (link detailed above). The walk starts from Vane Farm hugging the shores of Loch Leven and officially ends at the Pier in Kinross. It was a lovely day with mostly sunny skies but a keen, warm breeze from the west. The route is good underfoot and mainly flat. The changing scenery around the route is superb with early views over Loch Leven being particulalry stunning. The are numerous birds to spot. We particularly enjoyed the sight of hundreds of swallows swooping and diving amongst a field of green beans (the beans were quite tasty too!!)(followed by wild raspberries for desert . Another memorable sight was that of the gliders taking off, landing and soaring high above us on the thermals. This looks like a very relaxing experience, which we will investigate for a future adventure. We wandered passed farmers ploughing their fields and through beautiful woodland teaming with birds and squirrels. You get a real sense of being in the middle of the countryside even although you are literally only no more than 1 mile from the road at any time. The walk seemed to be over very quickly and we found ourselves at the Pier in Kinross. A lovely wee area with a cafe, gift shop and ferry to Loch Leven Castle. At this point we discovered we had no money for our afternoon tea , so we made do with a wee seat in the sun. Our options for getting back to Vane Farm were- re-trace our steps back along the Heritage Trail (8 miles) or opt for the B996 and left onto the B997. We reasoned that as they were B roads and had good grass verges at the side- this would be a reasonable and safe option. In the main it was however due to the timing (5pm Friday) the roads were busy and the verges quite high in places. We certainly got a good workout hopping up and down off them. It did get a bit monotonous after a while, particularly as we got tired. It looks as though and extension to the Heritage Trail is under construction, which will hopefully complete the loop back to Vane Farm. All in all a great wee route and definitely worth a visit but beware the B road option

- Ideal day out: Just getting back into hillwalking after 30 years away so enjoying easy hill walks and rambling round lochs. Hoping to build back up to the scary stuff.
