Glorious day in the hills
Route: Beinn Bhuidhe, via Glen Fyne
Date walked: 28/05/2012
Time taken: 7 hours
Distance: 21.5km
Ascent: 955m
Cloudless sky leaving the car park at the head of Loch Fyne. Superb walk along the track up Glen Fyne, but with no real incline for 7km, the prospect of a steep ascent in temperatures in the late 20s was a little daunting.
Leaving the track and following the path up the gorge, the heat of the day clung to the trees. The toughest part of the day, which was like walking through an oven. Uphill. Not an issue for my Californian counterpart and a novelty for Scotland so no complaining.
Once on the ridge, the views lived up to expectations -
The descent was straightforward, no bogginess, and the pools of the burn proved to be welcome respite
Best part of the day was yet to come however. Just before you get back to the car park, you pass Fyne Ales brewery. What a suberbly positioned point of refreshment. If any other munros are reading this entry, I urge you to recruit a brewer to your base. And indeed, if there are any others out there please let me know so I can bump up those hills on my to-do-list.
