Family walk on a damp May day

Route: Culzean Castle Country Park, from Maidens

Date walked: 08/05/2021

Time taken: 3 hours

Distance: 9km

2 teenage daughters, Bailey our dog with me & wife. Middle of spring but knew what the weather had in store- cold and drizzly at times. Wrapped up and all of us really enjoyed this walk.

Lovely dog friendly Maidens beach to start the walk before heading in to Culzean country park. Coming from Maidens side there is no charge to enter the park. The route takes you along much of the blue dolphin signed walking route of the park and this was a beautiful - bluebells covering the forest floor, views of the sea, cliffs and Ailsa Craig and Turnberry lighthouse in the distance. Walk also gives the option of stopping and spending more time in the middle of Culzean castle and has toilets, good coffee and muffins. Saw the deer and Llamas too.

All of the route was easily accessible, well maintained and despite the recent cold wintery weather easy to walk. Would definitely do this again and recommended it to our friends with dogs and older kids.
