Mull and a compleation summary
Route: Ben More (Mull) from Dhiseig
Munros: Ben More (Mull)
Date walked: 10/06/2023
Time taken: 2.75 hours
Distance: 10km
Ascent: 970m
The only hill I didn't want to finish the round on, just because it's the most popular one, and there I am, finishing, or should I say compleating, on Ben More.
The hill itself - very lovely. Great path, great weather - sun, some scattered clouds and wind, great views.
I wanted to summarise my whole round though.
I started off with the closest hill to me, Lochnagar, 7 years ago. I liked doing big walks. Drive in the very early morning, walk for like 10, 12 hours and drive back.
My first big round was the one with Ben Macdui, where half way up I realised I lost my car keys and walked back and luckily found them right at the Cairngorm cairn.
I can't say the worst weather, as quite often I walked in rain or clag, which is particularly annoying, because I can't see much through my glasses, but i do remember the big walk I did in rain - the Stobs. The Stobs, then Loch Treig, Beinn na Lap, Chno Dearg and SCG. Only waterproof socks saved my feet.
I liked the Fisherfield 5 (or is it 6?;) which I did in one day, from the south. I remember Ruadh-stac Mor looking very impressive from A'Mhaighdean.
Similarly impressive was An Ruadh-stac when climbing Maol Chean-dearg and obviously not to mention Black Cuillin with, I think, under appreciated Sgurr nan Gillean.
I did all of them Munros solo (apart from the Black Cuillin where I had a guide) and with no camping, so what I had planned for the Loch Mullardoch hills, to do them all in one go, i eventually did in 4 pieces. The other way was Loch Monar. That was meant to be at least 2 walks, but I was mental enough to do one big walk covering 6 Munros. 46km including 8km cycling. Very tired after that one.
All in all great experience. Great people met up the hills. Great fun with finding the path and with walking through the grass, heather, bracken, boulders, stones, snow, peat bogs, mud, swamp and burns. Great views and the feeling of emptiness and space. And also I drove the roads I never would've. Twisty, narrow, beautiful single track roads leading to a small car park.
So... Corbetts next?
