Caught the lunchtime ferry from Stromness to arrive early and collect fire wood. There is a toilet and tap at the bothy which is looked after by the Hoy trust,it can be busy in the summer but has excellent camping all around, take all you will need as there is no shop close by.Paths are good and easy to follow, wildlife includes Arctic Hare and various types of birds of prey (otter if you are lucky). There is a path to the bottom of the old man but was too steep for the dog but will visit again without him. I have headed south from Rackwick along the cliffs to a storm beach at Torness which takes about 7/8 hours, there is no water but a great camping spot
