Early start for Bidean with Guinness.
Route: Bidean nam Bian
Munros: Bidean nam Bian, Stob Coire Sgreamhach
Date walked: 27/08/2014
Time taken: 7 hours
Distance: 11km
Ascent: 1316m
Started at the small car park halfway down the glen at 0630 and headed into Coire nan Lochan via a well defined path, Guinness, (the black lab not the liquid) was more intent visiting every pool in the river on the way up but we eventually got up into the cloud around the buttress of Stob Coire nan Lochan and headed west to catch the ridge. Unfortunately we couldn't see the buttress or the ridge and with little or no path to follow I zig zagged my way using GPS till we were back on track and heading up the ridge. I was a bit worried about the dog but he skirted over the boulder fields with ease and kindly waited on me every 50 yards or so (they seem to know when your blowing out your rear end). Top reached and nothing to be seen so just a quick snack for Guinness and a drink for me and off again to tackle Bidean. The clouds tried to lift and we got a quick glimpse of The lost valley buttress but only as we dropped height, as we climbed Bidean all disappeared again and again not much to see but clouds at the top
As we dropped into the bealach the sun started to break through and gave me my first real photo opportunity since we hit approx. 900m. Photos and some video taken and dumped my bag to head up Stob Coire Sgreamhach. To my surprise when we got to the top the skies cleared and I had about 15mins of visability all round and fired off a few pics and a quick video just in time for my phone battery to die, but that 15mins made the whole day worthwhile, absolutely stunning views of the route we had just traversed and over to the Aonoch Eagach ridge with just the tops covered in cloud Heartened by this we headed back down and picked up the gear, had a well deserved snack then headed down into the lost valley, passing numerous people heading up the other way. Back to the car and both of us fed and watered, we headed down the road just as the winds got up and the heavy rain showers started
