Date walked: 21/08/2011

Time taken: 3 hours

Distance: 9km

Ascent: 511m

I started this walk at the car park. and made my way immediately into the woods were the path was clearly marked, after a few minutes I was greeted by a steep climb up to the top of the wooded area then back down the other side leading to the track that led down over a style and past the entrance to the lodge and I noticed the duck ponds teaming with the ducks so I decided to cut across country and take a closer look at the duck pond, which was a great mistake as the ground was water logged so it was hopping from clump to clump until I reached the track heading into the next section of woodland, following the track and path along the side of the burn until I reached the clearing before the fairly steep climb to the summit, after taking a couple of breathers on my way up to the top, but before I scrambled my way to the top of the rocks I decided to pop across to the cairn take a few photo's of the magnificent views all around, then it was time for the descent and on the way down I stopped for a quick drink and I don't know how I noticed it but there was a caterpillar from the Emperor moth with striking camouflage which kept it almost hidden amongst the heather, there was also an abundance of heather fly swarming the whole area, probably caused the heat of the day, they must have made a good feast for the small birds also in there hundreds ( I don't know what the birds were so if anyone can enlighten me I will be very appreciative). all in all I will do this walk again.
