Falls of Clyde demonstrates the 'Power of Nature'!
Route: The Falls of Clyde classic, New Lanark
Date walked: 26/09/2020
Time taken: 2 hours
Distance: 6km
Ascent: 230m
I'm new to this group (Hello everyone! ) but after our first visit to the Falls of Clyde I just want to tell everyone about it! Everything was just perfect- including ample parking, wide footpaths and (surprisingly) great weather!
My boyfriend and myself have been busy working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and there was no better escape than the Falls of Clyde! Setting off a little later, and after a 45 minute drive from Glasgow, I was so surprised there were *plenty* of spaces left! A short walk (using the Walk Highlands guide) took us to a collection of heritage buildings, including the visitor centre, cafe (& toilets) and a craft/food makers fair!
The walkway was wide enough to allow easy social distancing, and boardwalks were well-maintained. The walk was mostly easy- only a few steeper uphill climbs - and took us to lots of viewpoints of the beautiful waterfalls, with interesting information signs for the Hydro-electric power station. We saw lots of birds, plants and fungi (we wondered if anyone knew the names of these? - pictured).
The sound of the waterfalls was soooo relaxing, and I would recommend anyone who is anxious or stressed out with everything that's going on at the moment to take a trip!
