Early morning Walk / Jog up Kerloch
Route: Kerloch, from the north
Sub 2000s: Kerloch
Date walked: 03/08/2020
Time taken: 1.5 hours
Distance: 10km
Ascent: 400m
Weather was looking good for first thing in the morning so decided to tick off Kerloch from my list. Upon arriving there is a newly built off road parking area for between 6-10 cars so no need to try and find the layby in the WH description.
The first 3km is a well maintained farm road with a gentle incline the day I went up. There was a lot of cows and calfs along the road side which was nice to see. I jogged the first 3km as it was a nice easy road.
After about 3km the road forks, stay to the right and head up through the trees. The path is pretty worn and a lot of loose rocks, so be aware encase you roll an ankle or two. From this point I walked up and back down, first off there was no chance I was going to continue to jog as the incline starts to become steeper and I wanted to save my ankles.
You then come out through the trees about 1km or so up the path and it forks again I took the right path which is one big zig and ends up joining onto the path on the left. Continue up the path until you see a path on your right up through the heather to the trig point at the to top.
The decent was easy enough, just taking my time not to roll an ankle and then once I had past the rough path I jogged the last 3km back to the car park. Never passed another person and never heard any automobiles, beautiful walk and very peaceful.
