Lochearnhead to Glenogle Cottages (return)

Route: Glen Ogle Trail, Lochearnhead

Date walked: 19/04/2021

Time taken: 3.5 hours

Distance: 12.5km

Ascent: 410m

Per the Walkinghighlands route, our walk started at the car park opposite the watersports centre. The public toilets here are basic, but reasonably well provisioned. The initial climb up from Lochearnhead to reach the cycle path is very steep but, thankfully, short. The walk along the cycle track is a pure delight - a good solid track underfoot and stunning vistas. I even found myself admiring the workmanship of the navvies who built the original railway. We extended the route as far as Glenogle Cottages, which added an extra 1 km, each way, to the route.
Much has been said about the boggy return route, the worst part of which is the 2 km stretch that runs "below" the level of the A85. Despite the fact that we did this walk after a prolonged period of dry weather, this section was still very boggy. However, once you cross the A85 and take the path that lies "above" the road, the going gets much better. We found this section very enjoyable.
The walk took 3 hours 30 minutes (plus picnic at Glenogle Cottages).
Boggy sections aside, I would highly recommend this walk.
