Stalking time for the Moonboys

Corbetts: Ben Ledi, Benvane

Date walked: 13/10/2021

Distance: 20.4km

Ascent: 1153m

It occurred to me last week that I'd like to get to 100 Corbetts and 100 Grahams by the end of the year. So I supposed I should get a crack on with the Corbetts as I have to do them more or less when I'm on my own. Ben Ledi and Benvane are close - relatively speaking- to the house and would make for a reasonable day out, I thought. Choose a Wednesday. Forecast suggested dry if cloudy. That'll do. Decided to use the route up from the Pass of Leny this time - last twice we went in from Brig o'Turk. 9.30 at the car park. There's a motorway up the hill, which was pleasing - the weather was clag and drizzle, which was not. I had planned to do two Simms to the south of Ledi, but I decided that I couldn't really be bothered in the prevailing conditions. So up to the first summit, a few folk coming down as I arrived.

Off across the undulations to Benvane. It occurred to me that Benvane is really "Beinn Bhan". I kept going astray from the path - or perhaps I should more correctly say that I kept following paths that weren't the ones I wanted. I mean - I only had to follow the path beside the old fence line, but I kept getting side tracked onto other paths altogether, Not Paying Attention!

There were parts of the traverse that were extremely boggy/squishy. I was glad I'd put my goretex liners in my boots. After a time the clag lifted and that made the going a bit better. Roaring stags somewhere on Benvane. Incessant. Got to the summit in time for lunch at just gone 12. Repeated the mislaying path experience on the way back. Briefly considered going out to the Simms, but quickly knocked that idea on the head - I just didn't feel like it today. I wanted to go down the Stank Glen, new to me. And so I did. Quite pleasant. Took a bit longer to get back to the car than I expected. Overall a good walk, got my steps for the day and another 2 Corbetts - a dozen to get before the end of the year now. Manageable. Will have to tempt Allison into getting Grahams done in the coming weeks

Ledi now the clag has lifted
