Greenock Cut- spectacular views for little effort!
Route: Greenock Cut, Inverclyde
Date walked: 24/07/2021
Distance: 14km
We started the walk at Drumfochar station which has regular trains passing through from Glasgow Central Station on the Wemyss Bay line. The route can also be started from the Greenock Cut Visitor centre.
The route then follows the road uphill until you reach a sign saying Greenock Cut/Clyde Coastal Path.
You can choose to start the walk either by going up through the gate or turning right onto the flat path. We chose the turning right option. You are instantly rewarded with spectacular views for very little effort!
If starting from Drumfochar train station, you will reach the Visitor Centre and Cafe about a third of the way through the walk. The toilets were shut when we got there at 4.30pm but the cafe was still open so we got ourselves a nice cold drink. There is also food and ice creams available which is a nice treat on a hot summers day!
This is a lovely flat route to do on a sunny, clear day so you can really admire the panoramic views of Greenock, Bute, Dunoon, and Arran. It would be a bit boring on a cloudy or rainy day as it's the views that make this walk great.
Enjoy your walk!
