Impracticable stages in route's description
Route: Craighall Den circular, Ceres
Date walked: 10/10/2021
Distance: 4km
The narrow path described at the end of Stage 2 is quite impracticable these days. You can clearly see a nold path between hedges, but nowadays it is overgrown and full of brambles and nettles. You can traverse it with great difficulty, moving spikey brambles and nettles away, but it is not worth the effort. Similarly, the path along the edge of the field is difficult to traverse because it is also overgrown.
The kiln and Craighall Den have great walks, though. Simply do not get there following Stages 1 & 2. I suggest you get to Craighall Den following the road off Ceren that leads to the car park (close to Teassesmill). From there you can enjoy a nice (and muddy) walk along the burn towards the kiln.
Walkhighlands editor: We've been to check this route in midsummer since this report and found it to be passable and as described in our route guide. All the paths are official, current Fife Council Core Paths; one section does become overgrown in mid/late summer but remains walkable; it would be unpleasant if the plants were wet (as mentioned in the description). It is possible to just walk up the newly surfaced path in the Den itself but this would be an extremely short walk.
