Càrn na Saobhaidhe

Hear pronunciation Press to hear pronunciation

Carn na Saobhaidhe is the highest point on the vast, sprawling peaty moors that make up the northern Monadhliath. A remote summit, it can be approached from Coignafearn in Strathdearn, from Garthebeg, or via a bulldozed track which reaches right to the summit from Dunmaglass as described here. A windfarm is currently being constructed northeast of the summit; due to the profusion of new tracks, carefully navigation is required - gps is useful.

Other routes and challenges

The alternative approach is from the end of the public road at Coignafearn Old Lodge in Strathdearn. A good track leads up the very attractive glen to Dalbeg, and further up the Allt Odhar, but the final approach is still a long slog over pathless peat hags.
