Skerryvore Museum, Hynish, Tiree

Skerryvore Museum    Hynish    Tiree

Hynish is the place that Alan Stevenson chose in 1838 as the base for the building of the Skerryvore lighthouse and later as the shore station for the lighthouse keepers and their families. The original stores and smithy have been restored and given a new lease of life as holiday accommodation. Another listed building is home to The Story of Skerryvore Lighthouse exhibition, a fascinating exhibition about the construction of the tallest lighthouse in Scotland on the hazardous Skerryvore reef.

Visitors to Hynish can also enjoy the Treshnish Isles natural history exhibition.
