Gear review: Rab Longitude Pants

Recommeded Price: £65
Weight: 232g (32″ regular)

I’m not sure I’ve ever known such a long spell of hot, dry weather in Scotland, and with the clegs biting what’s been needed is long trousers to give some protection, but that are very lightweight and cool to cope with the heat. It’s pretty fortunate then that I’ve been testing out these summer trousers from Rab.

The trousers are made from a single weave Matrix SW fabric (100% polyamide) which is soft to touch, very lightweight and quick drying. There’s a diamond gusset and articulated knees which aid freedom of movement, and the construction seems robust. I’ve found the cut to be excellent – often I find walking trousers a little tight on the thighs unless going for a larger waist size, but these fit perfectly. The waist has belt loops (no belt supplied) and is partly elasticated. There are two front pockets – the left one having a clip for a key, and the right one containing a zippered mesh compartment; there’s also another zipped pocket on the rear. The hem at the ankle has two holes inside so you could fit cords if you wished.

The Longitude are available in waist sizes from 30″ to 38″ and three leg lengths. I’ve found them to be perfect walking trousers for warm summer conditions, and couldn’t really fault them.

Pros: Very lightweight, quick drying, excellent construction and cut
Cons: None
