{"id":16017,"date":"2017-02-28T11:11:45","date_gmt":"2017-02-28T11:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/?p=16017"},"modified":"2017-02-28T11:11:45","modified_gmt":"2017-02-28T11:11:45","slug":"statement-on-loch-lomond-trossachs-bylaws-from-the-ramblers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/statement-on-loch-lomond-trossachs-bylaws-from-the-ramblers\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement on Loch Lomond &#038; Trossachs bylaws from the Ramblers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following statement has been made by Ramblers Scotland, on the new camping bylaws which come into force on 1st March:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;New byelaws are being introduced on 1 March 2017, banning free camping at the most popular spots in Loch Lomond &#038; The Trossachs National Park from March-September each year.<\/p>\n<p>We believe the park should have tackled any issues with over-use and anti-social behaviour by investing in low-cost campsites and enforcing existing laws.<\/p>\n<p>Brendan Paddy, Director of Ramblers Scotland, said: \u201cWe\u2019re disappointed that the park is going ahead with this plan. It undermines Scottish access rights by providing too few tent pitches to cope with demand and by charging to camp in previously-free areas. Campers often won\u2019t get any toilets, drinking water or bins in return \u2013 and we fear the hassle, cost and insufficient number of permits may put people off visiting this wonderful area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI encourage campers to ensure they don\u2019t fall foul of the byelaws by checking out the guidance we\u2019ve published on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ramblers.org.uk\/policy\/scotland\/access\/camping-and-access-rights\/llttnp-a-responsible-camping-guide.aspx\">website<\/a>.
