{"id":4740,"date":"2011-08-15T10:25:48","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T10:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/?p=4740"},"modified":"2021-01-17T13:12:42","modified_gmt":"2021-01-17T13:12:42","slug":"honest-ben-lomond-hillwalkers-praised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/honest-ben-lomond-hillwalkers-praised\/","title":{"rendered":"Honest Ben Lomond hillwalkers praised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div id=\"attachment_4742\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/benlomondworkparty1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"benlomondworkparty\" width=\"310\" height=\"233\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4742\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4742\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NTS Trailblazers at work on Ben Lomond<\/p><\/div>The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is reporting a heart-warming tale of the honesty and generosity amongst hill-walkers on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/ben-lomond.shtml\">Ben Lomond<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ranger Alasdair Eckersall explains: &#8220;The hill, which is one of Scotland&#8217;s most popular with walkers, was the venue recently for a working holiday for young people aged from 16 to 18 years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These dedicated youngsters were carrying out footpath repair work on the hillside during their \u2018holiday\u2019, and had a small tub for donations onsite while they worked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wet weather closed in and the team had to abandon work for the day &#8211; in the rush forgot to stow away the donation box and the sign explaining how donations would be used.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all headed back up to the site a few days later and got a great surprise to find that not only was the tub still there, but it had about \u00a340 in change sitting in it. For two whole days, with no-one to keep an eye on it, our honest walkers had added to the pot quite considerably!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NTS cares for around 400 miles of footpaths on Scotland\u2019s mountains and carries out a programme of regular repair and maintenance.
