The cash is part of &pound;3.15m being given to Forestry Commission Scotland to improve Scotland&#8217;s forest estates. Over &pound;1m will be spent on 11 miles of new paths and upgrading surfaces on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/great-glen-way.shtml\">Great Glen Way<\/a> which links Fort William and Inverness.<\/p>\n<p>Environment minister Paul Wheelhouse said: &#8220;We want more Scots and visitors to enjoy and have access to Scotland&#8217;s great outdoors. This funding boost for the Forestry Commission Scotland will help towards achieving that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The projects will not only create new work and jobs but will also have a lasting benefit in supporting green tourism in rural parts of Scotland and encouraging people to get involved in physical activity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Both the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way are part of a growing network of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/long-distance-routes.shtml\">Scottish long distance routes<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parts of the West Highland Way long distance route will be upgraded following an injection of &pound;750,000 of government funding.
