1. Park at Rogie Falls car park off the A835, 2 miles west of Contin - there are toilets open here in the summer. From the corner of the car park take the wide trail on the left (marked Rogie Falls - not the path through the canopy). The path heads gently downhill through pine and silver birch. Ignore the stepped path on the right and continue along the path following the green markers. The path then climbs uphill for a short distance with an optional detour to a bench and viewpoint to the right. From the bench return to the path junction and follow it downhill through lichen-covered pines.
2. The path meanders through pines and boulders eventually reaching the river and turning right to follow the banks to Rogie Falls. There is a built look out point with fascinating boards giving information on the life of salmon, but an even better view of the falls can be found from the suspension bridge. On the far side of the bridge you can see the man-made fish ladder which was built at the same time as the hydro power scheme to allow salmon and other fish to reach the top of the falls in times when the river flow is artificially low. Between June and October you can see salmon attempting to jump either the main falls or the fish ladder to reach the upper parts of the river to spawn.
3. From the far side of the bridge you can follow a short red marked trail along the river bank to a picnic area. This is a good site for watching dippers and other birdlife. If returning directly to the car park, cross back over the bridge and follow the steps and path to the left climbing to reach Raven's Crag where there is an information board about the Blackwater hydro power project and the ancient people who used to live in the area. From here the marked path climbs steps and then returns to the car park.
