This circular walk explores the undulating hinterland behind the beautifully-situated village of Ardfern, passing an attractive freshwater loch along the way.

Start from Craignish Village Hall which is on the right as you approach Ardfern from the main raod. Start the walk by turning right along the B8002, traffic is usually reasonably light and the road is fringed by trees and offers views across the beautiful loch and the yachting centre. Pass the shop and take the next on the right next to the school in Ardfern. Head up the lane, passing several houses and curving to the right, until the public road ends by some wheelie bins. Bear right here onto a dirt track.
The track passes a couple of driveways leading to individual houses and chalets off to the left. Stay on the main track, crossing a cattle grid and soon coming close to the shores of the reedy Loch na h-Ardlaraich.
Soon the track forks; take the right branch that climbs uphill and curves left. Go through the gate signed for Ardlarach Chalets to reach a white cottage (please respect the privacy of cottage and chalet occupants). Here leave the track to pass the right side of a small outbuilding and up a few steps to a chalet. Turn right along the track in front of this chalet, then fork right through a farm gate (ignoring the track curving to a second chalet). Once through the gate the now faint, grassy track bears right uphill. The route becomes fainter underfoot, curve left when some stones are reached and the track soon becomes clearer once more, climbing slightly over a dip in a small ridge to reveal views down to Loch Craignish.
The track now leads down into a dip, where it again it becomes a faint path. At the dip with a telegraph pole straight ahead bear right to head down to reach a farm gate. Go thorugh this to emerge onto a driveway bend; turn left down this. Keep following the main driveway down until it reaches the main road, ignoring the branches into the gardens of various houses. This soon emerges at the village hall at the start.
