Stage 1

To reach the start, take the A846 Bowmore road from Bridgend and once past the hotel take the first left towards Cluanach. Just after the road bends and crosses the River Laggan there is parking near some houses on the right side of the road - take care not to block entrances. From here walk back down the road and over the river to take the track on the right.

Stage 2

Pass through a gate and when the track forks keep left to avoid a boggy area but soon bear right to rejoin the original track, heading for the prominent Dun Nosebridge directly ahead.

Stage 3

The easiest approach to climb the fort is from behind, follow the track around the left side of the fort and then make your way up to the top. Although best seen from the air, you can a good impression of the tiered ramparts as you climb. Dun Nosebridge is one of the largest of Islay's 80 fortified ancient sites. It is likely to date back to the iron-age but it has never been excavated although it is known that a wall would have encircled the summit with extra protection being provided by the trenches and earthworks below.

Stage 4

From the summit there is a good view of the highest hills on Islay, Beinn Bheigier, Glas Bheinn and Sgòrr nam Faoileann which are capped with white quartzite rocks and provide a rough-going challenge to hillwalkers despite their relatively low height. To return retrace the outward route.
