A short but steep climb to the summit of Knock Hill which has expansive views and a moorland feel, return is by the same route.

There is limited parking at a bend in the minor road just east of Swilebog, which is signed from the A95 just north of Glen Barry. Take care not to block any field or track entrances. The start of the walk is just beyond the sharp right hand bend after Swilebog, take the often muddy track on the left, passing a kissing gate. Keep to the left side of a clearing and soon the clearer path is picked up which heads through young birch trees and scrub. The distinctive dome of Knock Hill can be seen ahead. Once out of the trees head through a kissing gate next to a farm gate and continue straight ahead up the clear path through the deep heather.
The path is becoming increasingly eroded and can be muddy after wet weather. This route is taken every year by runners taking part in the annual hill race as part of the Cornhill Highland Games.
Nearer the top, go through another gate to reach the final short section to the summit. A trig point and cairn mark the top of this fairly large summit which has great views in all directions. There is also a memorial cairn to Martin James Gillies founder of the Stone Race. The circle of stones nearby have reportedly been brought to the summit by hill runners.
The return route is by the same outward path. As you descend there are good views across to the coast with Banff prominent and looking further south the hill tops of Bennachie can be made out on a clear day. The area is also a good place to spot hunting birds of prey and deer are also often found in the woodland near the start.
