This circular route follows the Lauder Burn upstream before climbing to a small ridge. It then joins the route of the Southern Upland Way, giving great views over Lauder and the surrounding countryside as it descends back to the site of an old granary mill.

Start from the Burn Mill car park which is reached by taking Mill Wynd from the Town Hall on the main street in the centre of Lauder. The car park stands on the site of an old granary mill and gas works. Start by crossing the footbridge over the Lauder Burn towards the houses and turning left to head upstream. Don't cross the next bridge, continuing ahead and along a section of boardwalk through willow trees, passing a bench.
Cross the stream and turn right to go through a gate into more open countryside, still following the water. Keep on the main path which soon slowly gains height above the stream.
After the remains of a quarry the path squeezes through gorse bushes, a series of steps are reached, good views open up as you climb. The path bears left to climb directly up to reach the Southern Upland Way near a bench - turn left onto this path to head back towards Lauder.
The Southern Upland Way is a long distance footpath running 341km from coast to coast across Scotland. This section of the route runs near the top of the small ridge, passing and cairn and then to the left of a small stand of pine trees (keep on the yellow waymarked route).
The wide grassy path has good views towards Lauder and the rolling hills beyond. Stay on the main path as it descends gently and go through a gate in the stone wall with a bench on the far side. Lauder comes into view for the final section back down to the car park.
