A short and easy walk following a loop along the Ettrick Water passing old mill buildings and with plenty of places to stop along the riverside.

Victoria Park is on the south side of the river just over Selkirk Bridge on the A707. To reach the car park follow the road off the A707 and turn left at the leisure centre. From here start the walk by crossing the grass to the riverside and turning right to follow the river downstream.
Evidence of Selkirk's past as a major woollen town can be seen in the large mill buildings. Follow the river to the metal footbridge and cross. Many types of ducks and grebes can be seen on the river and the surrounding fields are also home to oystercatchers, lapwings and other birds.
On the far side of the river turn left and stay on the surfaced path as it follow the Ettrick Water, which is a tributary of the River Tweed, upstream. Pass to the left of the houses and pass another footbridge over the river (a short cut if you need one). Follow the signed path past the arched wall on the right and then between the backs of garages and the rivers on grass which is sometimes muddy. Follow the earth path around the edge of the grass area past the picnic tables to go over a small bridge and pick up a surfaced path.
When this reaches the road continue ahead to the main road and turn left to cross Selkirk Bridge on a pavement. Just before the end of the bridge turn left onto a path which leads back to the start - to avoid the steps you can continue on the pavement and turn left at the road to return to Victoria Park.
