Mountain Rescue

If you or any of your party are injured, lost or in need or urgent assistance call 999 or 112 and ask for Police and then Mountain Rescue. If you have already registered you can also use the 999 text service.

Essential information to have at hand:

• The location of the incident - your current 6 figure grid ref is best - it is unknown. Alternatively give a known feature (e.g. summit cairn at 1072m), but we can work with most location formats if needed
• The number of casualties and their ages
• What is wrong with the casualties
• Are the casualties deteriorating?
• Details of the equipment in the group i.e. group shelter
• Your contact telephone number, current battery life and any other mobile numbers in the group

Depending on your location it may take some time for the team to reach you. Consider the the following steps whilst waiting for help:

• Try and sit out of the wind without moving location. If you need to move you must inform the police first
• Put all clothing on and get into a group shelter if you have one
• Don’t use your phone, save the battery, and keep it in a warm place so you can be contacted
• Look at what food you have between you and share it out if needed
