The Fara is a mountain of great bulk, with a long ridge stretching for miles above lower Loch Ericht and above Dalwhinnie. Its position makes it an excellent vantage point, and with easy going along the ridge it makes a grand hillwalk.

An alternative ascent of the Fara makes use of the tracks on the northeast side of the hill. It is possible to combine the ascent with a visit to the dramatic ravines of the Dirc Mhòr and Dirc Bheag.
