Alva Glen

The Alva Glen is a dramatic gorge in the steep southern front of the Ochils range. This short walk follows a dramatic path, easy at first, which climbs up into this ravine. The upper part involves a steep ascent to a viewpoint above the Smuggler's Cave. The route is given Grade 3 despite the short length as the return is on a narrow, slippery and eroded path above precipitous slopes requiring great care and a head for heights; this can be avoided by instead retracing your steps.

Clear and popular path at first. The climb beyond the dam to the Smuggler's Cave viewpoint has unprotected drops and steep ascent, whilst the return is on a narrow, exposed path requiring great care.
