Stage 1

There is a car park at Abdie Church next to railway just NE of Grange of Lindores reached from the A913 SE of Newburgh. From the parking area follow the surfaced lane SE to pass a house before reaching the ruins and churchyard of Abdie Church. Look in the open stone shed which houses some old carved stones. Continue to the end of the road and just before the entrance to Abdie House turn right through the farm gate and then bear left (don't go straight ahead to the gate) instead follow the hedge line on your left across the field to a gate at the Priest's Burn.

Stage 2

Cross the burn on a footbridge before turning left to follow the edge of the field - there are often crops so take care to keep the edge. Soon the route comes alongside the railway embankment. At the far corner of the field pass through a gate into the wood and follow the path straight ahead until it passes through another gate leading into an open field. After the gate turn sharp right to head steeply uphill follwing the fence.

Stage 3

When an old kissing gate and farm gate is reached part way up the field, turn left to follow an old fence line SE to traverse the hill with good views of Lindores Loch below. Go through a gate and the track becomes easier to follow as it passes a couple of copses used for pheasant breeding. The track approaches the buildings at Woodmill Mains, keep on the track as it bends left to pass to the left of the house and soon reaches the road (B937).

Stage 4

Carefully cross the road and turn left along the verge. Soon a track heads off to the right; take this, following the track uphill. Shortly before it reaches a waymarker post and levels off leave the track, turning sharp left to pass along the bottom edge of a fenced plantation - there is a Scotways marker and a great view of the loch ahead. Pass through a gate into a very boggy area; from here head diagonally uphill across the pathless field, eventually passing a walled spring and aiming for the corner of a fenced plantation. From here follow the top of a grassy terrace with some gorse bushes, heading directly towards the loch gently downhill. The farm at Cairneyhall visible down to the left.

Stage 5

When a fence is reached pass through a gate and turn right, following the fence uphill and crosssing a burn before turning left through a gate into an area of woodland. Follow the path straight ahead down through the trees and then continue ahead down onto a track. Turn left to follow the track to emerge at the main road. Turn right here and when a lodge house is reached fork right again onto the private drive for Inchrye.

Stage 6

After about 300m, immediately before a large tree on the left, take a clear path climbing through the trees to follow a wooded ridge. Keep following this as it heads through gorse, keeping ahead at a gap in the ridge. When the path forks keep left; soon it emerges on the main road just before Lindores. Turn right and follow the road, then turn left at the junction taking care on the busy A913. Soon turn left onto the minor road signed for Grange of Lindores which soon returns to the start point.
