This pleasant ramble follows tracks to make a circuit around Dundeugh Forest - now an island between the Water of Deugh, Kendoon Loch and the Water of Ken.

A track branches east off the A713 around 250m north of the bridge at Dundeugh / Polmaddie. There is space for a couple of cars to be parked carefully at the start of the track, and more space further along the rough track (care needed) once over the bridge over the Water of Deugh. Just beyond this is a vehicle barrier.
Past the barrier, follow the main track to the left, then to the right at the next junction. Keep to the main track as it bends right. The surge tank of Kendoon hydro-electric power station can soon be seen towering in the distance - this is designed to hold the surge of water should the turbines have to shut down suddenly.
At the next junction go straight ahead (as the main track seems to go left). The track eventually comes close to Loch Kendoon, created by the damming of the Ken and Deugh waters - the scheme resulted in Dundeugh forest becoming an island. Further on ignore a minor track branching left and stay on the route that runs around the fringe of the island.
The track eventually comes beside the Water of Ken and follows this back to the junction near the start. Retrace your steps from here by keeping straight on and then turning right past the barrier at the next junction to return to the car park, crossing the river to head back to the main road at the start.
