This short stroll follows a path around a group of small but attractive lochans; there are many benches suitable for picnics.

The walk begins from the Earsaig Lochans car park, around 3km west of Beattock on the minor road to Kinnelhead. Begin the walk by continuing briefly west along the minor road until a pedestrian gate on the right. Turn through this, following the Southern Upland Way through the field to a gate at the far end. Go through this and follow the path through the trees.
Soon an information board and picnic table is reached at the first of the lochans. Leave the Southern Upland Way here by turning left past the picnic tables, noting the dragonfly sculpture and following a grassy path to the left of the lochan.
The path crosses a footbridge and passes another picnic table. Follow the grassy path over heathery ground to reach a long section of wooden boardwalk. Beyond this the path swings right, past a newt sculpture, to keep to the right of the uppermost lochan.
Cross another footbridge to return to the Southern Upland Way route. The path to the left leads towards the lonely Brattleburn bothy (5km or so each way from here) - our short walk simply turns right to follow the Southern Upland Way back to the start.
