This circular walk on the outskirts of Dalry provides a quiet leg-stretcher through woods, farmland and quiet country lanes.

There is parking at The Cross in the centre of Dalry - a popular meeting place overshadowed by Dalry Trinity and St Margaret's Church - or in one of the free car parks in the surrounding streets. Head along North Street before turning right onto the main B780 Kilbirnie Road, passing North Street Gospel Hall. Keep to the pavement as the road heads out of town. Turn left onto a rutted tarmac lane in the industrial area - opposite Hamilton Vehicle Sales and before the road crosses Rye Water.
This lane leads to a junction. Take the track almost straight ahead - the one to the right of the one signed as the private access for Ryeside Stables, passing under a height restriction. The track runs by the Rye Water, seen on your right. When the track reaches a gate and a modern house, turn left onto a footpath through the woods. At a fork turn right, then go straight ahead on a slightly overgrown path between hedges and small trees (ignoring the path off left). This path can be very boggy; you might find drier going along the edge of the field on the right side.
The path bends left just before a wooded ravine (you can rejoin it here if you have come along the field edge). The path ascends gently, eventually passing through a gate and then arriving at the minor road leading to Cunningham Baidland Farm. Turn left to reach the Flashwood Bridge, and a road junction. Turn left here to begin the walk back to Dalry.
This quiet country lane passes Broadlie House, where in 1892 John Fulton installed one of the first hydroelectric plants in Ayrshire as a private supply for his home. The dam can be seen on the Putyan Burn close to a pedestrian bridge that gave views of the installation to visitors. Continue along the road past a cemetery and into the outskirts of Dalry. The B780 road is reached at a T-junction; turn left and then right at the next fork to return to The Cross.
