This waymarked circular walk heads up a forested glen from above the picturesque village of Barr. The route visits the beautiful Fairy Knowe then climbs a long flight of steps up a narrow grassy ridge before returning through the forest.

The walk starts from the Changue Forest car park around 1km east of Barr down a minor road; the road leads to a junction of tracks, both leading to car parks - this walk starts from the lower one (right hand fork), reached by continuing along the track up the valley. The route is waymarked by wooden signposts. Begin the walk by continuing along the track from the parking area, passing the entrance to Changue House. At a signpost the track forks - both routes being signed for the Fairy Knowe. Take the left-hand track that continues up the glen for the outward route.
Continue up the glen for a little under 1.5km, crossing a bridge over the river and then with views of the Fairy Knowe off to the right. Turn sharp right at a wooden signpost and follow a path down to and then across a footbridge, turning right on the far side.
Soon the path turns left up steps, and then makes the ascent of a long flight of steps up a narrow grassy ridge - a charming climb and the highlight of the walk. At the top there's a bench from which you can enjoy the great views back over the Knowe.
Turn right from the bench onto a path that contours round above the Knowe. It soon crosses a footbridge and then continues round the slope to the right, becoming muddy in places. There's a tiny seat just before the path plunges into the forestry plantations.
Cross a small footbridge amongst the trees and continue; the path reaches a stony track. Turn right down the track, soon leaving the trees and giving good views across the valley on the descent. Pass through a gate and continue down until the outward route is reached at the signed fork on the track. Turn left here to retrace your steps back to the start.
