This short walk explores Heanish, just west of Scarinish. It heads down from the houses across the machair to visit a dun and sandy bay.

Tiree has a Ring-n-Ride bus service operating on request; it can be booked between 1 week and 1 hour in advance of your journey, when available; the start of the walk is just over 1km from the ferry terminal.
Scarinish car park.
Park in the car park at Scarinish, where there is a coffee shop, takeaway and picnic tables. Begin by leaving the car park and turning right along the road, passing the Coop and then the island's heritage centre (on your right), and then the public toilets (on your left). There are lovely views across some sandy bays to your left.
Continue past the Eventide Home, and on until you reach the houses at Heanish. Here turn left onto a track over a cattle grid, with a house on your right. Follow the track across the grassy field, then as it approaches a house with a modern extension leave the track and bear right across the grass, passing behind the house and under the telegraph poles.
Continue across the grass towards the headland to the south of the bay. Soon the low mound of Dun Heanish is reached. Though the remains of the iron-age fort which once stood here are scant, there is an excellent view of the small but beautiful sandy bay of Tràigh an Duin - the Beach of the Fort.
Head down onto the beach and cross it as far as the wood-panelled house near the far end. Pass to the left of this to join its access track and follow this back to a gate and the road in Heanish by the start.
