Beinn Fhionnlaidh is a long, broad and undulating ridge running between Glen Etive and Loch Creran. It can be climbed from either direction but the route from Loch Creran avoids the worst of the forestry and gives good views out over the sea.

The alternative Glen Etive approach starts at Invercharnan. Use the forest tracks above the Allt nan Gaoirean, eventually following a path up a fire-breack from a sharp corner to reach the open hill. From here aim towards Meall nan Gobhar or the bealach to its north. From the bealach a rising traverse can be made to reach the ridge just east of the summit of Beinn Fhionnlaidh.
