Cairn Bannoch is a fairly insignificant summit on the Mounth plateau to the south of Lochnagar. The most significant feature nearby is the great cliff of Creag an Dubh Loch to the northeast (but out of sight).

You have not climbed Cairn Bannoch.

Other routes and challenges

A shorter route is simply to climb Cairn Bannoch over neighbouring Broad Cairn, initially using the track from the Spittal of Glenmuick. An impressive but rougher variation it to combine this with an ascent / descent via Creag an Dubh-loch, passing the Dubh loch and the Stulan falls.

A more unusual approach would be from the head of Glen Clova in Angus. Head up to Bachnagairn, then up over Broad Cairn; a descent can be made via Crow Craigies.
