An alternative, rougher and more challenging approach is from Torran Dubh on the A835 to the south. Head across boggy ground to pass Loch a' Gharbhrain - crossing the burn is not possible in spate - and Loch Coire Lair. A steep ascent leads up to the mouth of Coire Granda, and the south ridge of Cona Mheall which offers a scrambling route to the summit.
