Sgurr a'Chaorachain is usually climbed together with neighbouring Sgurr Choinnich. Both mountains are tucked away up the glen of the Allt a'Chonais from the main route through Glen Carron.

Other routes and challenges

The approach via the Allt a' Chaonais given above is almost invariably used. The east ridge - over Bidean an Eoin Dearg - looks magnificent, but the foot of it on the shores of Loch Monar is exceptionally remote and would deter most.

The extremely fit could combine the Walkhighlands route with the additional Munro of Maoile Lunndaidh, or with the Corbetts Sgurr nan Feartaig and Beinn Tharsuinn.
