Craigston Castle is an impressive stately home, dating from the seventeenth century. A series of new accessible paths have been made in the woods and policies; this route follows the longest of them, making a very pleasant circuit.

The walk begins from a dedicated car park - turn off the B9105 towards Craigston Castle and the car park is off to the left. To begin the walk, head back out of the car park and then turn left along the track, with the wall of the former walled garden on your right. At the track junction at the end of the wall turn right, then follow the track as it curves left. At the next junction - with the castle visible ahead, and the doocot by the track - turn right. The castle is a family home but also available for private rentals - please respect privacy by remaining on the walk route.
The track forks again - take the left branch, crossing the old stone bridge, then turn left on the far side. There are further views to the castle. The track curves left and runs along the edge of a field, passing a pond and through the edge of the woods; it can be muddy at times. Keep ahead onto a well-constructed path.
A track is reached by the ruins of the Craigston Mill, now used as a barn. Do not continue to the road behind the mill, instead crossing the track and taking the constructed path opposite, passing the front of the mill. The path curves right and continues along the edge of woodland, with open fields to your left.
After almost a kilometre the path descends a little and meets another path in the trees - turn left onto this. It leads down to a small footbridge over a burn.
Cross and continue along the path until it emerges on a track by a lodge house. Turn right here, then take the next path on the left after a short distance. The path leads across a couple of wooden footbridges before meeting the track at the entrance to the estate, by the walled garden wall. Turn right along this, then the parking area at the start is on your left.
