This attactive waymarked forest walk leads up to a neolithic tomb, as well as the ruins of the cleared township of Lagaville

Waymarked forest paths and tracks; a little rougher up to Meallach's Tomb.
Dyemill Forest car park (off the Ross road).
None to start, but only short walk from Lamlash.

The walk - which is waymarked throughout - begins from the Forest and Land Scotland car park at Dyemill. From the parking area, turn right to continue along the entrance track, crossing a bridge over the burn. On the far side immediately turn right on a footpath through the trees, that soon leads to a footbridge and recrosses the burn.
The path continues up the far side of the burn for 500m until it reaches a fork. The old route to Urie Loch - now blocked by fallen trees - goes off right here, but our route turns left, crossing another footbridge back to the east side of the burn.
On the far side, keep right at a fork, climbing gently. The route soon reaches a lochan amidst the forest, with a bench on the far side. This was the site of the Lagaville township scant ruins remain of three houses. Continue along the path - still waymarked in yellow.
Ignore a first path off to the right, soon reaching a second junction where a path signed for Meallach's Grave goes off to the right. This is a detour of around 150m of rougher path heading uphill, leading to the grave which is actually a neolithic tomb. Pottery shards and glass beads found in the tomb when it was excavated in the 1960s are now in Glasgow's Hunterian museum.
Retrace your steps from the tomb back down to the waymarked path, and continue along it until it reaches a forestry track. Turn left along this, and after 400m turn left again (yellow marker) onto a footpath once more. When a path junction is reached turn right (ignoring the footbridge) to continue down the near side of the burn, rejoining the outward route near the start. Continue back to the car park.
