Before heading off along the obvious path, spend some time admiring the view from the bridge - rocky North Sannox Burn is truly beautiful from this angle. Follow the pale path leading into the forest from the far right corner of the carpark. Stroll along this - the going is particularly easy - and keep left as the path forks by a footbridge. This alternative path leads a short distance to a well-placed bench, a great spot for a lunch break. Otherwise ignore the footbridge over the burn and press on.
The path soon enters the forest, surrounded by heather and fragrant bog myrtle with the burn beginning to drop down into a steep gorge. Step over a couple of tributaries or take the short bridge, and head deeper into the glen. The first of a series of attractive waterfalls will draw the eye as the gorge becomes narrower and deeper, in places forcing the water into a peculiar corkscrew effect.
The views will open out as the edge of the forest is reached, with the jagged Glen Sannox ridge in view ahead. The distinctive cleft that forms Ceum na Caillich (or Witch's Step) is obvious as well as the castellations of Caisteal Abhail. Eventually the good path ends at a fence, and onward progress is via a rougher, rockier path. The slight effort is rewarded by increasingly dramatic waterfalls and panoramic views into Coire nan Ceum. Eventually even this rougher path peters out, and unless continuing to summit Caisteal Abhail by way of the Càrn Mòr ridge it is best to retrace your steps to the carpark.
