A classic alternative option is to ascend Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain via its northeast ridge from Ghiubhsachain on Loch Shiel (reached by walking along the track from Callop). The ridge is steep with optional scrambling; from the summit of Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain you can continue as described in the route above over Sgùrr Craobh a' Chaorainn.
