Shalloch on Minnoch is the northern termination of the long, high and broad ridge extending north from The Merrick. Its flat summit looks out towards Arran and Ailsa Craig.

The route given above could be just the start of a long traverse of the Awful Hand range, the ridge running southwards and linking to the Merrick.

An alternative approach is from Kirriereoch to the southwest, enabling a circuit that includes Kirriereoch Hill. The approach involves forestry and some boggy going.
