Before exporting a GPX route file from Walkhighlands for use on a third party app, please confirm that:

1. You understand the need to also carry an alternative or backup means of navigation - your GPS device or phone could fail. Good map reading and navigation skills are essential for safety on any hillwalk or walk in wilder terrain - see this article for more information on the use of GPS devices or smartphones as navigation aids. 2. You acknowledge that Walkhighlands is the owner of the GPX file data and it is made available to download only for your own personal use. It must not be made available to download from other websites.


3. Whilst we take every care to ensure the GPX files are accurate, you acknowledge that walks are undertaken entirely at your own risk and Walkhighlands can accept no responsibility or liability, nor gives any warranty, as to the accuracy of any of the information on the site, including these files.


4. GPX data contains the route line overlay only - GPX files cannot contain actual mapping.

How to use

1. Exporting a GPX file on your smartphone is for users of other navigation apps that do not want to use the Walkhighlands app. These files will do nothing unless you are using a rival app such as OSMaps, Outdoor Active, Anquet OMN, Memory Map, or Topo GPS.
2. The link above will download the file to your phone's downloads folder. You may be able to then open it in your preferred app by simply clicking the file. If you get a 'Cannot Open File' message, then after downloading you need to open your phone's File Manager app (may be called 'Files' or 'My Files'), go to the Downloads folder and open it from there.
3. If you are still having difficulties, contact support for the navigation app you are using. We can only offer support for our own Walkhighlands app that does not use these files.
