This is the longer option of two fine waymarked circular walks from the Castlehill Reservoir in Glen Devon. The walk passes through native woodland and gives excellent views.

The walk begins from the large parking layby beside the Castlehill reservoir on the A823. Begin by heading up the track that leaves the road opposite the southern end of the layby, past the Woodland Trust sign. The track runs parallel to and above the road at first before swinging left. There are good views looking up the glen.
At a footpath sign turn left through the gate; the path is signed for both the Upper and Lower Castlehill loops - our description is for the former (green markers) - the red markers are for the shorter, lower loop. The path reaches and then runs beisde a low stone wall, climbing to eventually reach a wider, grassy path running across the hill - turn left here. Further on, at the next junction, take the path that forks right uphill - all waymarked in green. The path continues to gain height, climbing to another fork. There are great views back across the glen.
The path now contours the slopes, keeping below a fence. The slopes you have come up through are well stocked with native trees - part of a project by the Woodland Trust to regenerate Glen Devon. The project also created a network of walking trails including this route. Eventually a waymarker indicates where it bears left; further on it joins a track at a bend - follow the track running downhill.
At the bottom of the hill go through a gate to reach a larger track, and turn right along this. The track passes a house and eventually leads back to the layby at the start.
