There is parking at the community hall in Leswalt, by the shop. Begin the walk by turning left just past the shop onto Challoch Crescent, and then immediately right onto Kirkland View. This soon becomes a footpath, signed for Aldouran Glen, heading along the side of a field. It eventually reaches a hardstanding area, go straight across through the kissing gate into Aldouran Wetland Garden.
The path heads through Aldouran Wetland Garden, created with many sensory plants particularly for those with special needs, before leaving through a gate at the far left corner. Follow the path as it curves round, then stay on the right-hand path to cross a wooden boardwalk across the marsh. Near the end of the boardwalk a short diversion to the right enables a visit to the wildlife hide, but the main walk continues ahead.
You are now entering Aldouran Glen itself, which is owned by the Woodland Trust. The path soon bends right and continues up the left side of the glen. Until just after the Second World War the glen had only native trees but it was then partly planted with commercial conifers before the Trust bought it in 1994 and began replanting with oak, birch and ash. The path is a little muddy in places and crosses a footbridge over a side burn.
At a path junction keep straight ahead (ignoring the boardwalk on the right), continuing up the glen until the path eventually emerges on a track. Turn right here and follow the track to a cross-roads, with the farmhouse of Glenhead of Aldouran visible ahead. Turn right and pass a white cottage. The route eventually becomes tarred and gently descends, giving views over Loch Ryan. Turn right when a road is reached and follow this back down into Leswalt and the start.
