This pleasant walk makes a circuit of the White Loch of Myrton on the Monreith estate, passing through mature woodland.

Take the B7021 up the hill from Port William and then the first minor road on the right (towards Monreith). The entrance to the Monreith estate is a track on the left. It is possible to drive up this track (May - September); keep straight ahead ignoring several branches on the right, one of which is signed for Monreith House. Take the next right hand branch to reach a rough parking area - at the time of our visit this was partly taken up by heaps of gravel but there was still room for one car. An information board gives some details on the walks here. For the circuit of the loch, head briefly back along the entrance track and then turn right. The track soon comes alongside the White Loch of Myrton.
The track continues beside the attractive loch. There are good views across the water; keep right at a fork. The Monreith Estate is the ancestral home of the Maxwell family, whose luminaries include the writer Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water - an account of his life with pet otters at Sandaig in the West Highlands.
Continue by the loch, passing a boat house. At the far end of the loch the route reaches a cottage. Pass in front of this and continue round the shore; there are views now to Monreith House above the foot of the loch. At a fork bear right off the track, onto a footpath; it can be muddy at times. At another fork, again keep right, closer to the loch shore. Look out also for a crannog - the remains of an ancient lake dwelling.
Eventually the path emerges onto a track; turn right and follow this back to the car park. There are views to Monreith House.
