Warb Law, topped by a transmitter mast, rises to the south of the town of Langholm; its ascent is quite rough but rewarded by superb views over the town. Waymarked walk no.5.

This route is mostly waymarked with posts with the number 5. Start from the Kilngreen car park adjacent to the River Esk, on the A7 just north of the centre of Langholm. Walk back along the main road towards the town but turn right over the bridge onto Thomas Telford Road. On the far side, turn left down Elizabeth Street, then right onto Caroline Street until you turn left across the footbridge into Buccleuch Park. Go straight ahead through the park, with the angel war memorial over to your right.
At the end of the park bear left (marker post), then go straight on at a cross paths to begin Easton's Walk, a path through the woods beside the River Esk. Bear left onto a larger path and then a track to emerge on the main A7 road at Skipper's Bridge. Do not cross, instead turning right along the verge. Pass the cemetery entrance and then take a right turn at a marker post onto a footpath which climbs up through the trees. This emerges on a track; turn right here, then left at the next track junction.
As the track broadens out turn right through a metal kissing gate (marker post beside it). From this point until the summit of Warb Law the route is pathless, and becomes increasingly rough and boggy underfoot. Head directly up the hillside, passing beneath two sets of electricity cables and continuing uphill. Good views begin to open up across the glen. Continue up to reach the third set of electric cables much higher up the hill. From here the route bears right, taking the best route you can find across rough ground whilst aiming to reach the mast on the summit of Warb Law.
There is a trig point by the mast, and an excellent aerial view over Langholm. To continue the walk, pass around the near side of the mast's perimeter fence to reach a grassy track leaving it on the west side. Follow this gently downhill.
The track soon swings right and descends more directly towards Langholm. Keep straight ahead when another track joins from the left. When another junction is reached, follow the main track which here curves left. Go straight ahead at a cross-routes by a house, then immediately bear right onto a path which soon descends steps back down into Buccleuch Park.
Keep ahead on the path through the park to exit through a kissing gate in the wall. Turn right here to head back to the footbridge; cross this and retrace the outward route back to the car park.
